Sans se soucier des obus, il [un journaliste américain] se promenait là, son kodak à la main (...) il photographiait, pour les mettre sous les yeux de ses compatriotes, toutes nos ruines, nos villes, nos cathédrales partout saccagées (LOTI, Vertige mond., 1917, p. 206). J'aime beaucoup Paris à cette époque de l'année : les touristes avec leurs kodaks et leurs guides (QUENEAU, Enf. du limon, 1938, p. 43).
Prononc. : []. Étymol. et Hist. 1889 (Monit. de la Photo, p. 4, col. 1 ds BONN., p. 81). Mot formé arbitrairement par l'Américain G.
